Cable Technician – Lead Technician About the Role
This role primarily involves the installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure within a Data Center environment. The individual will provide leadership to crews, ensure high‑quality workmanship, maintain cleanliness, and adhere to all production, safety, and quality standards. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders, reading blueprints, and a broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.
What You Will Do- Installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
- Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
- Provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders.
- Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
- Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
- Read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation.
- Show a broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.
- Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools.
- Capable of leading a crew of 1-5 technicians.
- Understand customer service, perform job walks and communicate with the customer for job requirements.
- Accept responsibility for the outcome of work performed by yourself and by employees that directly report to you.
- Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
- Be able to read and understand job floor plans.
- Familiar with wiring schemes and wiring testing.
- Able to pull all types of low‑voltage cables.
- Understand and perform field terminations and labeling.
- Capable of maintaining orderly paperwork and running midsize to large projects and service jobs.
- Possess skill to layout MDF and IDF closets, dress all types of cable and perform all types of terminations; basic understanding of fiber equipment and fiber terminations.
- Basic understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
- Capable of working in Data Centers.
- Able to work on analog, DSL, and extend T1 lines.
- Be able to patch network equipment.
- Report to Operations Manager and take daily directions from Technician, Technician II, Lead Technicians, Senior Technicians and Advance Senior Technicians.
- Track and submit timesheets for crew reporting.
- Perform job walks.
- Maintain paperwork and run service jobs.
- Copper/Fiber (term, test, splice, troubleshoot).
- Responsible for the outcome of work.
- Track lessons learned.
- Coordinate with QAQC on quality status walks.
- Understand network handover and project close‑out.
- Identify the tech's strengths and weaknesses.
