Job SummaryThe Ramp Supervisor will lead, direct, and coordinate the efforts of ground, line, and cabin service personnel and ensure the timely delivery of all services for airlines as contracted. The supervisor will take accountability for safety, operation standards, policy implementation, client relations, and financial performance for the ramp operations.
Job Responsibilities- Establish shift assignments for both full‑time and part‑time employees
- Monitor and ensure safe and efficient operation of all airline ground support equipment
- Report discrepancies that may exist functionally or mechanically on ground support equipment
- Coordinate between each assigned carrier to ensure that cargo and baggage services meet carrier needs and on‑time schedules are met
- Ensure equipment is safe, efficient, and available in the ramp area and baggage room for upcoming flights
- Consult with other supervisors and managers to coordinate activities with other departments
- Determine manpower requirements and enforce fair, timely disciplinary procedures
- Comply with attendance and tardiness standards
- Perform under pressure within fixed time constraints
- Read and interpret aircraft weight and balance loading instructions, hazardous material identification labels, aircraft loading manifests, and baggage routing tags
- Follow and comply with all federal, state, municipal, airport authority, and carrier rules and regulations
- Brief crews before flights on positions to take and how flights will work
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must possess at least 6 months of computer experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to navigate electronic devices (computers, fax machines, printers, timeclock, etc.)
- Proven track record in supervising a business unit
- Experience in operational planning and resource allocation
- Working knowledge of GSE maintenance issues
- Understanding of commercial aviation issues
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum age 18 years
- Ability to process information in a timely manner
- Valid driver’s license
- Proficient speaking, reading, and writing in English
- Basic computer literacy
- Previous ramp or airline experience
- Successfully complete all training requirements and maintain certifications throughout employment
- Clear FBI fingerprint background check
- Physically fit to perform duties including standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods
- Capable of repetitively lifting up to 70 pounds in confined spaces
- Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to loud noises
- Must be able and flexible to work variable shifts, weekends, and holiday‑specific shifts as determined
- Must be able to work extended hours on short notice during non‑routine operations
