Job Summary:
Assist in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day‑to‑day functions of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Supervises and coordinates nursing activities of assigned units to ensure that the ongoing needs of the residents are met. Observes, assesses, and documents status and symptoms of residents, provides nursing care to residents and effectively communicates to residents, other staff, families, and physicians.
Duties/Responsibilities- Oversees the nursing care provided in the building assuring that the nursing process is utilized.
- Directs personnel on resident’s condition and appropriate care necessary.
- Supervises the direct care rendered by RN’s, LPNs and Caregivers. Acts as a professional role model and resource.
- Utilizes written and verbal reports to ensure safe continuity of care 24 hours a day.
- Demonstrates effective customer service skills on an ongoing basis.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary/ required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
- Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
- Collaborates with consultants:
Pharmacy, Dietary and Medical Records, responding to problems as necessary. - Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
- Communicates effectively with the resident and families as needed.
- Schedules rounds to observe residents and to determine if nursing needs are being met.
- Assists in emotional and physical rehabilitation and education of residents.
- Assures adequate staff to meet resident’s needs.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Outstanding organizational and leadership skills
- Thorough understanding of nursing management strategies
- Possesses knowledge of the nurse practice act as well as State and Federal regulations
- Demonstrates ability to work and communicate effectively and efficiently with residents and families, various departments, and other personnel
- Possesses State of Wisconsin nursing license
- At least three years of supervisory experience in a nursing environment
- May be exposed to infectious diseases and hazardous substances
- Mechanical hazards related to equipment common to care
