Senior Mechanical Estimator – Rudolph & Sletten
Rudolph & Sletten, a Tutor Perini Company, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join our office in Menlo Park, CA.
Salary: $160,000 – $180,000 annually, depending on experience and region.

Key Responsibilities- Prepare conceptual cost models and budgets for the Mechanical Trades (HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Fire Protection) from minimal design information.
- Prepare detailed estimates as documents progress in design.
- Prepare detailed instructions to bidders as part of the procurement process.
- Solicit, receive, analyze proposals and bids from HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection subcontractors.
- Recommend award and prepare subcontracts.
- Review basis of design, plans, and specifications.
- Assist design team in ensuring documents are biddable, constructible, and cost effective.
- Write instructions to bidders to clearly document scope of work to be included and excluded, avoiding change orders.
- Evaluate bids and conduct post‑bid interviews.
- Evaluate change orders as requested.
- Coordinate with the Vice President of Estimating, Preconstruction Executive, or Senior Estimator in assignment of project‑related responsibilities to the estimating/preconstruction staff.
- Plan and communicate project goals to the estimating team via a kick‑off meeting using a prepared agenda based on the Project Kick‑off Meeting Checklist.
- Work with the Document Control staff to distribute project documents and vital information to appropriate team members and outside resources.
- Review, interpret, quantify, and accurately estimate cost, and critically analyze the work described in the project documents.
- Identify and mitigate project‑related risk.
- Use a checklist to ensure all required tasks associated with assigned projects are attended to in a timely manner.
- Coordinate, direct, and follow‑up with the estimating team to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Coordinate with Logistics and MEP Managers to accomplish vital project goals.
- Solicit, collect, and critically analyze subcontractor/vendor budgets, bids, or quotations associated with assigned projects or packages.
- Review and verify scope of work and pricing (Subcontractor Analysis Sheets) of other team members when acting as project mechanical lead estimator.
- Use accepted templates for the preparation of estimates and clarifications, analysis of bids, calculation of alternates, and other tasks.
- Present the project scope of work, estimated costs, risks, and opportunities to management during final review of estimates.
- Participate in the presentation of proposals, budgets, etc. to clients and prospective clients.
- Participate in the delivery of appropriate project files to Operations Staff during a turnover meeting using the Turnover Meeting Agenda and Checklist.
