Senior Electrical Engineer

Join to apply for the Senior Electrical Engineer role at Leo Labs

At Leo Labs, we’re building the living map of activity in space. Through our proprietary global radar network and AI‑enabled analytics platform, we collect millions of measurements daily on more than 24,000 objects in low Earth orbit (LEO). Our radar‑powered intelligence protects billions in assets, monitors adversarial behavior, and ensures safe operations for commercial and government missions.

We’re not just building technology, we are redefining global security, safety, and transparency in space. As orbital activity accelerates and threats grow more complex, Leo Labs is a trusted partner for Space Domain Awareness, Space Traffic Management, and Satellite Operations for top‑tier space operators and allied defense organizations.

If you're looking to work on mission‑critical challenges at the forefront of aerospace, national security, and AI, your impact starts here.

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join us full‑time onsite at our Menlo Park, CA headquarters, where you’ll work side‑by‑side with our RF, Mechanical, and Embedded engineers to lead electrical design direction for next‑generation radar systems.

At Leo Labs, the Hardware Engineering Team designs, develops, manufactures, and deploys the advanced radar systems powering the world’s most persistent orbital intelligence. This is a rare opportunity to work on high‑power, mixed‑signal, mission‑critical hardware that directly supports national security, commercial space operations, and global safety.

In this role, you will own complex PCB layout, schematic design, electrical integration, and serve as our team’s eCAD domain expert, driving Altium standards, design governance, and engineering best practices. You’ll work hands‑on in our lab with real hardware, collaborating across engineering disciplines and seeing your designs come to life from concept through production, deployment, and global operation.

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy solving hard engineering problems, working closely with multidisciplinary partners, and contributing to hardware that must perform reliably in demanding environments.

Responsibilities
  • Lead PCB layout and collaborate on schematic design for radar subsystems, including power, control, timing, and RF boards
  • Drive best practices for layout, stack‑up, grounding, high‑speed routing, and high‑current design
  • Work closely with RF, mechanical, and embedded software engineers to enable robust system integration across all hardware domains
  • Engage directly with radar hardware in the lab, supporting prototype bring‑up, board validation, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to improve DFM/DFT processes and resolve production issues
  • Contribute to electrical architecture, system‑level design reviews, and long‑term hardware roadmap direction
  • Participate in occasional international travel to support deployment, bring‑up, and site activities
Basic Qualifications
  • BSEE (or equivalent) with 7+ years of experience in PCB design for complex mixed‑signal systems
  • Expert proficiency in Altium Designer, including library/database management
  • Proven ability to take designs from schematic → layout → fabrication → bring‑up
  • Strong understanding of PCB manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, and constraints
  • Experience with power distribution, grounding, EMI/EMC best practices, and high‑speed design principles
  • Excellent documentation practices and commitment to design traceability/version control
Preferred Qualifications
  • MSEE or equivalent advanced degree
  • Experience designing multi‑board or modular electronics for radar, industrial, aerospace, or defense systems
  • Familiarity with SI/PI simulation tools and methodologies
  • Experience with controlled‑impedance routing, differential pairs, and high‑speed digital interfaces
  • Working knowledge of embedded processors or FPGA integration
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments, DFM workflows, and hardware deployment cycles
Within 1 month, you will
  • Complete our onboarding program designed to get you up to speed on our business, vision, and team.
  • Learn about our existing radar designs and product roadmap.
