Duties:
Support the development of new X-ray and Laser science instruments, X-ray and optical beamline systems, and help lead the development of new operational capabilities for the Linac Coherent Light Source facility.
Requirements:
- BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field
- 5 years' experience in engineering and/or engineering research, to include a solid background in each: performing engineering calculations
- performing finite element analysis using software such as Ansys or Abaqus
- analyzing precision optomechanical instrumentation components
- preparing technical reports and documentation
- using computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as Creo Parametric or Solid Edge, to develop detailed models of complex mechanical assemblies, generate engineering drawings, and apply Design for Manufacturing (DfM) guidelines
- performing seismic analysis
- scripting and automating simulation workflows
- manufacturing of new scientific devices
- Demonstrated success collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams
