Group Leader Assay R&D — Molecular Biology & Bioinformatics (NGS)

MyOme’s mission is to provide clinically actionable genetic information to patients throughout their lives. We combine clinical‑grade whole genome sequencing, advanced AI methods for genome interpretation, and seamless digital tools for doctors and patients to order and access results. Our team is composed of seasoned entrepreneurs, scientists, and operators, and we’re backed by top‑tier investors.

Position Overview

MyOme is seeking a group leader to lead NGS assay development with a focus on long‑read sequencing assays. This person will lead and scale an integrated team across molecular assay development and computational pipeline R&D, with a company‑wide impact. Proven experience in developing NGS assays with bioinformatic workflows is essential. The ideal candidate will also be a decisive leader, capable of navigating ambiguous situations to deliver results.

What

You’ll Do
  • Technology Leadership
    • Design and optimize end‑to‑end targeted NGS workflows with the assay team.
    • Institute stage gates on technology (R&D → Pre‑Validation → Validation → Release).
    • Build robustness across sample types (whole blood, saliva) and throughput modes.
    • Work with Clinical Lab Operations to define analytical performance claims (LoD/LoQ, precision, specificity, interference/cross‑reactivity, carryover) and verification/validation study designs.
    • Supervise team development of research analysis pipelines, including definition of QC metrics and acceptance criteria for successful development.
    • Establish truth sets, simulation frameworks, and benchmarking (GIAB, contrived mixes).
    • Define analytical performance under real‑world conditions.
    • Collaborate with downstream bioinformatics teams for production hand‑off.
  • Team Development
    • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team of R&D scientists.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the lab.
  • Program Management
    • Maintain a single integrated roadmap for assays, pipelines, automation, and data operations with quarterly milestones mapped to product releases.
    • Handle budgetary responsibilities.
  • Publications
    • Own the publication plan for assay components as well as IP strategy.
    • Opportunities to present at conferences and engage in external collaborations.
What You’ll Need
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 8+ years in NGS assay/product development, with experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated record of targeted NGS assay launches or molecular diagnostics productization.
  • Bioinformatics proficiency:
    Linux, Python/R; variant calling (SNV/indel/CNV/SV);
    Cloud compute.
  • Experience with a range of NGS platforms (e.g., Illumina, ONT, Pac Bio).
  • Demonstrated success scaling labs and data systems, including LIMS integration and automated QC release.
Location, Compensation, and Benefits
  • Location:

Onsite at our Menlo Park, CA laboratory campus.
  • Compensation:
Annual base salary range is $170,000 – $230,000 (San Francisco Bay Area pay range: $170,000 USD – $230,000 USD).
  • Benefits
    • Comprehensive healthcare coverage (Health, Dental, and Vision).
    • 401K.
    • Unlimited PTO.
    • Professional development opportunities.
    • Company-sponsored off‑sites and team meals during in‑person meetings.
