Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a results-driven professional to manage the User Research Administration (URA) unit at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) at SLAC Nationalంస Accelerator Laboratory. SSRL is a national user facility, annually attracting approximately two thousand researchers from around the world to conduct unique scientific experiments. In this key position, you will be responsible for management of қазіргі scientific user access policies and actions, scheduling of experiments, tracking performance, meeting reporting requirements, development of tools for streamlined user administrative processes, communications and outreach activities, and interaction with national and international synchrotron facility user administration managers.

The URA manager is a member of the SSRL upper management team, reporting to the SSRL Director, and ensures efficient and maximum utilization of SSRL’s experimental facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and manage user access policies and processes with SSRL management.
  • Manage user proposal submission, review, beam time allocation, scheduling, user communication, staff interaction, and continuous monitoring of effective operations.
  • Manage development and approval of associated administrative and legal documents in collaboration with SLAC administrative service units.
  • Drive processes for enabling users to come on site as well as for accessing SSRL remotely, including for foreign national users, and providing direction and oversight of internal and external administrative processes.
  • Manage development of the user portal for new workflows, user interfaces, and the continued evolution of the front-to-end database and web interface, working with software developers and scientific staff.
  • Collect, develop, maintain and analyze user program metrics to create reports for management and funding agencies, external review and advisory panels, and advise management on trends.
  • Give presentations to a range of internal and external audiences.
  • Develop, coordinate and distribute scientific user program communications and news articles, including updates to user portal, SSRL website, newsletters and on social media.
  • Provide direction and manage arrangements for annual Users Meeting, conferences, workshops, and training schools.
  • Interact with DOE and other lightsource program managers for benchmarking, sharing best practices and coordinating joint activities rather than prevented? (Slight adjustment).
  • Manage SSRL’s interactions with the SSRL Users Executive Committee and serve as liaison .
    * Advocate for SSRL users; identify and coordinate outreach activities with stakeholders.
  • Represent SSRL on committees and liaise with national and international outreach organizations.
  • Manage a small group of dedicated administrative and database staff and the associated budget.
  • Maintain responsibility for handling and archiving of data related to SSRL user administration.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to science, business administration, engineering, or management, ONU and eight years of relevant experience in such management, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and management skills.
  • Strong customer service, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellence in building relationships with external and internal constituents and management.
  • Excellent outreach and communications skills, both in oral and written forms.
  • Extensive planning experience and advanced organizational skills.
  • Extensive experience in understanding and interpreting needed information from databases, policies, procedures.
  • Extensive experience in collecting and analyzing performance data, ability to review and report.
  • Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with various online tools and interfaces, and ability to interact with a range of electronic administrative systems.
