Chief Engineer, Aerospace Electrification
Eaton’s corporate Research Labs team is seeking a Chief Engineer to support Aerospace Electrification. The position can be based in the following U.S. locations:
Golden, CO;
Raleigh, NC;
Southfield, MI;
Galesburg, MI;
Menomonee Falls, WI;
Pittsburgh, PA;
Beachwood, OH;
Irvine, CA; and other major Eaton locations in the U.S. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of these sites; relocation assistance is not available. Up to 25% travel is expected.
Annual salary range is $ – $, plus eligibility for a variable incentive program.
What You’ll DoAs the Chief Engineer you will be a recognized authority in the field, working closely with electrification experts to develop technology and strategies for broad aerospace applications within the Energy Systems team. You will serve as principal investigator on key projects, responsible for developing and meeting project schedules, defining scope, cost, technical targets, and preparing reports for all research and innovation themes under your control.
You will maintain relationships with the external technical community, mentor staff, and collaborate with stakeholders and customers.
- Create and define research and technology focused themes, participate in defining technology investment strategy, and lead complex global technology realization programs in Aerospace Electrification.
- Work with GTDs across Eaton globally to define technical competencies and capabilities required to support technology strategy.
- Create emerging Energy Systems research programs based on breakthrough technologies for the aerospace industry.
- Further advance state-of-the-art energy and power systems and identify commercial opportunities with Eaton’s global businesses.
- Own technical leadership through aerospace electrification roadmaps and collaborate with multidisciplinary globally distributed teams.
- Identify program/project risks and influence stakeholders to make pivot/persevere/kill decisions.
- Influence and communicate major changes in projects or program achievements to cross-functional teams across all levels.
- Coordinate and influence the research focus of partnering university consortiums and national lab initiatives.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience, including time in the aerospace electrification industry.
- Experience working on government proposals, programs, or contracts.
- Position requires access to export-controlled information; applicant must be a U.S. person (citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
- PhD in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience as a Principal Investigator in a research setting.
- Expertise with aerospace propulsion or power systems.
- Expertise in vehicle/aircraft electrical distribution architecture modeling, circuit protection, energy storage, or thermal management.
- Extensive experience leading engineering groups and mentoring talent.
- Extensive experience developing proposals and winning government-funded programs.
- Track record leading externally-funded programs and interacting with customers and partners.
