Menomonee Falls, WI at Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital facility. This position is on‑site. FTE: 0.3. Standard

12 hours. Shift: Shift
1. Shift Details:
One 12‑hour shift per week.

Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides routine care and assists patients with activities of daily living. Responsibilities include assisting patients, working under the patient care director and RNs on duty. Other duties as assigned.

A minimum of two acute care medical‑surgical clinical rotations (or one medical‑surgical rotation and one relevant rotation) from an accredited nursing school is required, or one medical‑surgical rotation with pertinent work experience is required. At least one rotation must include medication administration. Nursing courses and clinicals must provide knowledge in patient care, procedures, physical assessment, history collection, care plan development, and documentation.

Six months or more as a nursing assistant is preferred. The candidate must be currently enrolled in an accredited nursing school or be a graduate awaiting NCLEX retake.

• Reading, writing, and understanding basic arithmetic and directions related to patient care.
• Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and physicians courteously.
• Ability to perform simple numerical comparisons and concentrate on detail (80% of work time).
• Physical ability to walk, stand (80% of work time) and lift/position patients (20% of work time).

• State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification preferred; otherwise documentation from accredited nursing program confirming completion of basic nursing course per Wisconsin administrative code.
• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) or approved equivalent required within 90 days of hire.
