The YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is seeking a dynamic, health‑focused individual to lead fun and effective Group Fitness classes.
Under the direction of the Fitness Director, and in accordance with Association policies, the Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for completing all required training and in‑services as required by the Fitness Director. The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for the delivery of adult fitness classes focusing on excellent customer service, safety, positive participant experience, and promoting wellness and engagement. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is responsible for upholding our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the Y’s core values – caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Complete all training provided, and practice skills learned in preparation to start leading adult fitness classes.
- Safely lead energizing, fun, effective, and educational group classes, as directed by the Fitness Director, to accomplish the Y mission and goals.
- Build strong rapport and authentic relationships with members; help members connect with each other and the Y and actively participate in the Y’s annual support campaign.
- Within the scope of practice, answer questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Follow all Y policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Report incidents and accident reports as necessary.
- Promote YMCA programs and events while specifically encouraging regular participation in Group Fitness classes.
- Keep accurate class attendance records and be responsible for proper use and care of the audio and studio equipment.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent, and at least 18 years old.
- Previous experience leading/instructing fitness classes is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Some Group Exercise formats may require outside certifications prior to hire.
- Ability to teach more than one format is preferred – cross training provided for most formats.
Pay Per Class Rate for Group Exercise Instructor 1
30‑Minute Class: $10.00 – $12.00
45‑Minute Class: $14.00 – $16.00
60‑Minute Class: $17.00 – $19.00
