Parking Representative (Limited)
University of California, Merced – temporary position providing parking enforcement, traffic control, and maintenance of parking facilities on campus. The role is available in a remote or hybrid capacity and requires a valid Class C California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
Job Responsibilities- Maintain and test parking equipment, including gate arms, electronic detectors, meters, and vending machines, ensuring all are operational and properly repaired.
- Coordinate with outside vendors for installation, service, and repair of parking equipment.
- Inspect lighting, signage, and safety conditions in lots, driveways, and other parking areas; submit repairs and recommendations through facility work‑order forms.
- Exercise traffic control duties such as pushing stalled vehicles, deploying barricades, cones, bollards, and other traffic control devices during events or when alternate parking is needed.
- Provide assistance to patients, visitors, and employees with directions and parking information.
- Support parking allowance vending, sign‑in/out, and fee collection; fill exchange machines and help deposit parked‑vehicle money.
- Enforce campus parking regulations, monitor compliance, issue citations, and support the UC Merced Municipal Court in contested‑citation defense.
- Perform vehicle booting and towing operations as outlined in departmental policy.
- Respond to reported safety incidents, including fires, leaking fuel, unattended vehicles, and damaged equipment, and coordinate with UC Merced Police and supervisors.
- Provide relief to parking assistants and office staff during breaks, absences, or special events; assist with shuttle operations when required.
- High school diploma or equivalent certification.
- Six months of related experience (public contact work preferred) and knowledge of parking operations, policies, and procedures.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills; ability to make critical decisions using sound judgment.
- Capacity to work in hot, cold, and wet weather conditions.
- Basic computer skills and ability to follow instructions and convey information effectively.
- Valid Class C California driver’s license; subject to the California DMV pull‑notice system and satisfactory driving record.
