This is a categorically funded assignment contingent upon year‑to‑year funding. The position works 8.5 months of the year and is paid over 10 months.

General Description

Under the direction of the classroom lead teacher and assistant director, the associate teacher assists with and oversees the daily operations and teaches an assigned group of children using developmentally appropriate practices in the preschool or infant/toddler program. The role includes providing a safe, clean, and orderly environment, active exploration, independent choices, and active problem‑solving opportunities. The associate teacher integrates and individualizes care and curriculum for all children regardless of abilities.

Functions
  • Act as part of a teaching team that assists with teaching and supervising a group of children, including planning an appropriate classroom environment and providing activities for all areas of child development.
  • Oversee classroom operations and staffing in the absence of the lead teacher.
  • Greet parents warmly upon arrival and departure and consistently communicate with parents.
  • Administer assessments and screenings; conduct ongoing observation and assessment of assigned children’s growth and development and record results.
  • Maintain required records and develop portfolios for assigned children to document developmental growth.
  • Plan and prepare lesson plans based on child observations, Individual Education Plan (IEP), Family Service Education Plan (FSEP) goals, and assessment results.
  • Implement intervention practices based on individualized goals under the guidance of the lead teacher and support staff, working collaboratively with speech and language pathologists, psychologists, medical professionals, and other support personnel.
  • Support the full integration of children with special needs into the classroom; plan and provide daily experiences, activities, and routines that achieve the goals of the IEP, FSEP, or individual intervention plans.
  • Adapt curriculum and prepare specialized materials to meet the needs of children with disabilities.
  • Work collaboratively with lab instructors and provide modeling and support for college lab students training in the classroom.
  • Schedule and conduct parent/teacher conferences; develop goals for the child’s growth with the parent.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training activities, case conferences, parent conferences, center meetings, IEP meetings, and other meetings as directed.
  • Provide training and guidance for classroom volunteers.
  • Prepare snacks and follow food program guidelines; participate in family‑style meal service; prepare and set up tables, guide children in cleanup activities following meals and snacks, wash and sanitize dishes according to center procedure.
  • Carry out authorized emergency and safety procedures and administer first aid.
  • Report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect in accordance with Title V regulations and policy.
  • Perform housekeeping duties such as sweeping, laundry, windows, etc.
  • Assist with special projects such as open houses, parent meetings, fundraisers, etc., during or after normal work schedule.
  • Comply with Child Development Center (CDC) policies and procedures, administrative regulations, State of California Health and Welfare Codes, and Child Development Division Title V regulations.

Knowledge of
  • Principles and practices of Early Childhood Education (ECE).
Ability to
  • Speak, read, and write English clearly.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records using proper spelling and accurate calculations.
  • Stand, walk, bend over, grasp, reach overhead, stoop, twist, push, pull, and move, lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand on feet for long periods of time; sit on floor or child‑sized chair.
