Dual Enrollment allows high school students to earn college credit while completing their high‑school education. This part‑time counseling position is situated under the Dean of Student Services and is funded with categorical funds based on grant availability. The counselor is responsible for providing academic and vocational counseling, developing educational plans that may include Dual Enrollment or CCAP courses offered on high‑school campuses within our service area, and working a maximum counseling load of 10 units per semester, which may include evening and weekend hours.
EssentialFunctions
- Assess and assist the whole student, including cultural differences and/or disabling conditions
- Communicate effectively
- Provide accurate academic/vocational information
- Implement innovative and flexible counseling methods to increase matriculation rates among non‑traditional students
- Function as a student advocate facilitating the resolution of college‑related problems
- Work independently and in small groups on educational projects
- Master’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in counselling, rehabilitation counselling, clinical psychology, counselling psychology, guidance counselling, educational counselling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counselling; _or_
- Bachelor’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in one of the above listed degrees and a current license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) valid in California; _or_
- The equivalent
- Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti‑racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.
- Currently working as a grades 9‑12 counselor on a high‑school campus within the Merced College service area
- Experience with the use of the ARIES student information system frequently used at K‑12 sites within the Merced College service area
- Understanding of student support programs and services that increase retention, completion, and academic success
- Experience with student MIS systems and computer‑based educational planning software
- Knowledge of current Student Success and Support Program requirements and processes; technology skills related to counseling and a willingness to pursue future technological developments; familiarity with programs that aid socio‑economically disadvantaged and/or academically underprepared students

Interview Information:
Those applicants deemed highly qualified will be invited for oral interviews before a screening committee. Interviews will be scheduled on site.
Sick leave: each 20 hours of paid service earns one hour of sick leave credit.
Condition of Employment:
