Overview
BAKERY/CAKE DECORATOR role s position supports delivering an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintaining a safe, clean environment. The role also assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and upholds quality assurance standards. Responsibilities- Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions about products sold within the department and store.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of department products and respond to questions or provide suggestions.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover items; prepare bakery items (including wedding cakes) per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Recommend bakery items to help customers get what they want and need.
- Check product quality to ensure freshness; review sell-by dates and take appropriate action; use bakery equipment (refrigerators, freezers, ovens) according to company guidelines.
- Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies and other bakery items.
- Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
- Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand the store layout and locate products on request; stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
- Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
- Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
- Ensure adherence to merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, safety, food safety, associate and customer engagement rules.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions; notify store management.
- Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of items in need of repair.
- Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity (e.g., robbery, theft or fraud) and notify management of accidents involving customers or employees.
- Must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum
- Any retail experience
- Any bakery/cake decorating experience
- Ability to handle stressful situations
- Knowledge of basic math
- Effective communication skills
Desired
- Second language: speaking, reading and/or writing

The final rate of pay is determined at store level based on prior equivalent work experience.
