The Idaho State Police is seeking a Technical Records Specialist 1 to join our Bureau of Criminal Identification Team in the Applicant Unit. This position provides a variety of records support functions, reviews and processes documents, determines and explains compliance with laws, rules, regulations and policies, and takes appropriate action. It maintains a manual or computerized records system and performs related work.

- Review, evaluate, approve, and process civil and law enforcement applicant background check documents.
- Research, analyze, and interpret responses from criminal history records for dissemination to state, local, and independent agencies or private individuals. This process may require accessing multiple information sources and involve extensive knowledge of the Computerized Criminal History database.
- Determine and explain compliance with laws, rules, regulations and policies and take appropriate action providing information and services to customers in‑person and over the phone.
- Evaluate and manage processing of transactions into electronic accounting software, including; creating billing invoices; researching money received on account; posting and applying payments.
- Provide fingerprint services for licensing, employment and personal criminal history checks.
- Experience monitoring a records system to identify and correct errors.
- Researching a variety of sources to resolve problems.
- Interpreting, explaining and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments.
- Entering and retrieving data using a computerized records system.
- Ability to type 40 words per minute.
- At least one year of work experience obtaining and safeguarding sensitive information.
- Experience using word processing software to create and modify documents.
- Experience with cash handling, balancing and reconciling.
- Ability to speak English & Spanish fluently.
- Previous experience working in a law enforcement agency.
