Whether you are new to working in pharmacies or are an experienced Pharmacy Technician, Walgreens will train you to use your skills and talents to serve and care for our patients and customers. The courses, learning activities, and resources provided to you in our pharmacy technician training program are designed to give you foundational and advanced knowledge, skills, and on‑the‑job experiences you need to prepare to become a certified pharmacy technician.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and in performing Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with company policies.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions; if PTCB certified, assist and coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
  • Deliver customer service best practices with all team members, including interactive habits and Walgreens service traits.
  • Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
  • Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug data, filling prescriptions, verifying medicine, checking for interactions, and assisting pharmacists with scheduling and workflow.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to pharmacist on duty; adhere to company policies and Quality Improvement Program.
  • Strictly adhere to the Walgreens policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
  • Register sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash, and assist customers in the OTC aisle when possible.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require pharmacist attention, including calls to physicians.
  • Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services promptly and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assist with inventory management activities: ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain knowledge of company asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, or order errors.
  • Assist in administering clinical services such as collection and labeling of blood/urine samples, coordination of clinical services at Walgreens clinics, and outreach to local medical community.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to ensure Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Comply with all company policies and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification/registration.
