Position: National Sales Director (Group Health Insurance)

A well-established national insurance carrier with more than 50 years of industry experience is seeking a National Sales Director to lead and expand its distribution strategy across the United States. The organization specializes in dental, health, and ancillary employee benefit plans and maintains a strong presence in the employee benefits marketplace. With an entrepreneurial culture, a streamlined decision-making structure, and a commitment to innovation, the company offers an opportunity for an experienced insurance sales leader to shape national growth strategy, strengthen agency and broker partnerships, and develop new distribution channels.

This high-impact leadership position provides significant influence over sales performance, market expansion, and the long-term direction of the organization.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive national sales strategy focused on agency, broker, General Agency, and strategic partner distribution.
  • Expand existing relationships with agencies, brokers, and key industry partners while identifying, developing, and launching new distribution channels.
  • Drive national revenue growth, establish sales objectives, and consistently meet or exceed sales and profitability targets.
  • Recruit, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sales organization, including regional sales leaders and account executives.
  • Strengthen the company's competitive position in dental, health, and ancillary employee benefits through strategic partnerships and effective go-to-market initiatives.
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers, including benefits consultants, HR leaders, healthcare executives, and other relevant industry stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for expansion into new markets and develop scalable distribution strategies, including digital and partnership-based sales models.
  • Leverage CRM platforms, sales analytics, performance metrics, and technology-enabled tools to evaluate results, improve productivity, and guide strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, product development, marketing, and executive leadership to align sales initiatives with company objectives and market opportunities.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and evolving customer needs to identify opportunities for growth and differentiation.
  • Establish performance expectations, accountability measures, and development plans to build a results-oriented sales culture.
  • Deliver measurable year-over-year growth across key product lines while expanding national agency and broker relationships, particularly during the first 12 months.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of proven sales leadership experience within employer benefits, health insurance, dental insurance, or a closely related insurance market.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing sales strategies that drive revenue growth, market expansion, and profitability.
  • Established relationships with General Agencies, insurance brokers, carriers, and broker networks; an existing industry network is required.
  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and lead high-performing sales teams, including regional leaders and account executives.
  • Existing professional relationships with dental and/or healthcare executives, HR leaders, benefits decision-makers, or workforce development stakeholders.
  • Experience expanding distribution networks, developing strategic partnerships, and opening new markets.
  • Familiarity with digital distribution, technology-enabled sales strategies, CRM systems, and data-driven performance management.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate sales data and market insights into actionable business strategies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to build and scale sales operations while maintaining accountability for results.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support national sales initiatives and partner relationships.
