Job Details
  • Position   or  (depending on qualifications).
  • Full‑time, 40 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
  • Eligible for a $1,000 sign‑on bonus (payout terms apply).

As part of the Construction and Service Enablement team, you’ll build and maintain cutting‑edge fiber optic networks nationwide. TDS has over 50 years of experience delivering up to 10 Gbps speeds to homes and businesses.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general construction and maintenance of aerial and buried fiber facilities, ensuring compliance with maps, staking sheets, and safety standards.
  • Operate & maintain construction equipment (excavation tools, trenchers, backhoes, etc.).
  • Install, splice, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic facilities.
  • Conduct cable fault acceptance tests, locate defective fiber, and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Update GIS, maps, and as‑built drawings; label infrastructure such as pedestals, vaults, and handholes.
  • Restore work sites to original condition after project completion.
  • Train and mentor team members; maintain construction equipment.
  • Provide support to field service technicians and complete required documentation promptly.
Qualifications Required
  • 1+ year of construction equipment operation (directional drills, trenchers, backhoes, bucket trucks) or current/past military service with honorable discharge.
  • Must follow TDS attendance guidelines.
  • Valid driver’s license and eligibility for DOT requirements.
Other
  • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL; current CDL preferred at hire.
  • Physical strength to climb poles, ladders, towers, kneel, dig, lift, and pull.
  • Must pass all components of the Safety Training course upon hire.
  • Background check may be required by customer.
  • Preferred: 1+ year experience in fiber optic cable construction or underground/overhead utility installation.
  • Horizontal directional drilling experience preferred.
  • Understanding of telecommunication products and services.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
  • Occasional travel; willing to work overtime and swing shifts if needed.
Training

On‑site safety training, pole‑climbing, bucket truck, and CDL training. Underground training lasts 3 weeks with an optional 1‑week aerial training; full program can be up to 4 weeks.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, and equipment handling. Lift up to 50 lb regularly and 100 lb occasionally. Exposure to outdoor weather, high‑risk areas, extreme temperatures, humidity, fumes, loud noise.

Pay

Hourly rate: $25.13 – $37.69. Actual offers depend on skills, experience, location, and role‑specific competencies. Bonuses or equity awards may be additional.
