Occupational therapists provide practical advice and solutions to enable people to live full, satisfying, and independent lives. They use specialized skills in assessment and treatment; occupational therapists provide care to prevent injury or impairment, restore functional activity and enhance participation in daily life. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Conducting physical and psychological assessments of residents and developing or following a treatment plan.
- Assessing environments of residents and deciding what adjustments are needed.
- Developing physical rehabilitation programs to help residents regain lost skills.
- Complying with federal, state, and local certification requirements.
- Evaluating resident condition regarding physical and basic mental health.
- Confer with physicians, residents and their families, nurses, therapists, social workers, and other members of a resident’s care team.
- Develop a treatment plan for patients with specific goals and tasks that will help them meet those goals.
- Demonstrate exercises that can help patients better perform everyday tasks and relieve pain.
- Recommend and teach residents how to use adaptive equipment that will help them with daily living, such as wheelchairs and eating aids.
- Assess residents’ progress against goals and prepare reports for healthcare providers and insurance agencies.
- Maintaining professional knowledge and the technical progress in order to provide clients with the best treatment program available.
- Modify a resident’s personal living space within the facility to increase their safety.
- Create opportunities for residents to engage in meaningful activities despite their physical limitations.
- Graduate from an accredited physical therapy program.
- Current State Occupational Therapist license.
- CPR certification for Health Care Providers.
- At least one (1) year in long-term care facility preferred.
