The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs:
Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development and much more. It is the mission of MDRS to provide appropriate and comprehensive services in a timely and effective manner. Programs and services assist individuals with disabilities to gain employment, retain employment, and to live independently.

This position is with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation within the Community Rehabilitation Program. Incumbents provide a variety of instruction and training to individuals with disabilities who are receiving services in our Community Rehabilitation Program – Ability Works. Incumbents work under the general supervision of the Facility Manager (Vocational Training Supervisor).— The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides instruction, training, supervision, and behavior modification services to consumers with disabilities to facilitate self-sufficiency.
- Assists in securing appropriate community-based training sites for clients.
- Utilizes skills and techniques that address learning ability
- Simulates work environment utilizing behavior management techniques and promotes positive worker traits.
- Formulates individual training programs for each client with supervisory review based on evaluator assessment.
- Participates in staffings to provide feedback relative to client's behavior and performance.
- Observes, records, and completes written reports of client's progress in classes and at community-based sites on a regular basis with supervisory review.
- Provides workplace readiness skills classes
- Teaches clients in job skills labs/classes
- Completes required electronic data entry, paper forms, and reports as assigned, in accordance with established procedures and timelines.
- Ensures facility and client safety standards are met.
- Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
- Supervises all vocational training instructors.

Adapt and change as new information or unexpected obstacles are encountered;
Effectively deal with difficult issues and people, exercising sound reasoning; ensure all problems encountered are addressed at the appropriate level and communicate all relevant information in a timely basis with accuracy and completeness.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 3-4 years of relevant experience and/or relevant certifications/licenses. — Hiring Agency Prefers: A High School Diploma or high school equivalency and three (3) to four (4) years of experience directly related to the above-described duties.
