RN‑PRE ADMISSION TESTING
The Registered Nurse prepares patients for surgical procedures, angiograms, and myelograms by assessing physical and mental status, arranging laboratory tests, EKGs, x‑rays, etc., and providing pre‑ and post‑procedure education. All abnormal results and risk factors are reported to the appropriate physician. The Registered Nurse also assists with financial prior authorization.
Responsibilities- Communicates frequently by phone with patients, physicians and other service areas to schedule appointments, obtain orders and reports, or to report findings.
- Completes required consent forms at the pre‑admission appointment when required.
- Documents on appropriate chart forms in a neat, legible manner, utilizing correct abbreviations.
- Obtains history information and assesses the patients for risk factors related to procedures prior to the surgery date.
- Obtains pre‑admission testing orders from the appropriate physician and arranges for tests, medications, consultations and referrals.
- Orders tests for each patient on appropriate requisition.
- Prepares list of patients needing bed pre‑op, angiogram, and myelograms for Admitting Officer to take to bed meeting.
- Provides pre‑ and post‑procedure teaching, appropriate for the age and condition of the patient.
- Reviews surgery schedule with Holding Room nurse to address times, reporting locations, and problems to be addressed the morning of surgery (e.g., needed lab draws, consents, directs, etc.).
- Reviews test results as assigned and reports results that may impact surgery to the physician.
- Utilizes computer to enter demographic data, medical history information, and physicians' orders for each patient.
- Retrieves computerized reports and places them on chart after reviewing them for accuracy and normal values.
- Associate’s degree in Nursing (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred).
- Three years of nursing experience (required).
- Licensed Registered Nurse.
