Staff Engineer, Hardware Design – Celestica

Summary: The Staff Engineer, Hardware Design works with cross‑functional teams including other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high‑quality product development. The role enhances designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations, and provides support throughout the manufacturing process of the electrical/mechanical systems they design.

Additional Responsibilities: The Staff Engineer, Hardware Design (Electrical) develops new electrical systems and circuits for various applications. Responsibilities include researching system ideas, drawing plans, capturing them in schematics and system specifications, testing, simulating, validating and qualifying systems, and making adjustments as needed.

Key Tasks:

  • Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects across multiple domains.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to a sizable team of engineers, potentially acting as a go‑to expert in one or more technical areas.
  • Take responsibility for non‑technical elements of an engineering project, such as people and financials.
  • Review and interpret customer requirements/specifications and may act as primary customer contract.
  • Analyze trade‑offs in complex systems and recommend solutions, developing deployment strategies and plans.
  • Lead the deployment of strategic complex programs and coordinate site‑wide deployment efforts.
  • Manage relationships with key vendors and partners.
  • Research system ideas and develop plans for these systems.
  • Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs.
  • Create designs in line with Celestica procedures, regulations and customer standards.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.
  • Solve complex problems.
  • Act as liaison with suppliers, customers, contractors and other internal teams.
  • Recommend system modifications.

Electrical Expertise:

  • Create schematics, bills of material, diagrams, drawings, etc.
  • Analyze and interpret data and information.
  • Create reports and documentation.

Technical Capabilities:

  • Strong engineering design experience in the field of Compute, Storage, or Network products required.
  • Knowledge of AI products and GPU servers is a strong plus.
  • Experience with high‑speed OSFP/QSFP networking design equipment and testing is a plus.
  • Experience in very high‑speed digital hardware design and development and understanding of complex concepts related to architecture, design engineering, reliability, prototyping and failure analysis required.
  • Design experience with DDR5, 100

    GbE or faster Ethernet, PCIe Gen5 or above, 56G SERDES, or similar interfaces is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and program management skills required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards required.
  • Experience in a “customer facing” environment desired.
  • Excellent multi‑tasking and problem‑solving skills desired.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • International culture awareness, ability to communicate and collaborate within global team desired.

Physical Demands:

  • Duties performed in a normal office environment.
  • May require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements such as data entry and computer mouse use are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

8 to 12 years of related experience; experience in similar job roles.
