Sr. Electrical Engineer - Control Systems (Finance) Job Overview
This is an individual contributor role in the Control Systems business that will require application of knowledge in the electrical engineering field and the use of considerable initiative and creativity. The Control Systems group is a start‑up business inside an established medical device development organization. The direct responsibilities for this position include design, development, and integration of electrical systems and firmware for an embedded real‑time control system product line.
The incumbent must possess an advanced level of engineering knowledge and be fully competent in conventional aspects of broad areas of technical assignments. They will provide technical expertise, and the ability to explain technical decisions, techniques or approaches to colleagues, management and customers.
- Design, implement and deliver high quality, robust embedded electrical designs for the business
- Create and maintain technical documents and reports including performance specifications, electrical designs, schematics and drawings
- Contribute to electrical requirements with other members of the engineering team as appropriate integrating them with system and software requirements
- Conduct experiments to evaluate operating characteristics of breadboards, prototypes, or products
- Design cables and cable harness assemblies
- Utilize electronic design tools, such as Orcad or Altium for schematic capture, to design PCBAs
- Ensure component reliability based on technical evaluation of suppliers' specifications and designs
- Utilize engineering best practices including Design‑for‑Manufacturing (DFM) and Design‑for‑Test (DFT)
- Work cooperatively across all engineering disciplines, such as software, systems, electrical, and mechanical, as well as non‑engineering team members, such as Project management, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support, to deliver projects on time and on budget
- Prepare estimates for assigned tasks including design, development and test
- Assist in troubleshooting customer application problems
- Representing the company in customer communications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master's degree is preferred) with at least 5 years of experience in electrical engineering and electronic design and development
- Working knowledge of engineering theories, concepts, principles, practices, and processes
- Possess creativity and originality sufficient to contribute to new inventions, designs, or techniques
- Experience with FPGA design, simulation, and implementation highly desirable
- Familiarity with VHDL/Verilog for logic design
- Aptitude with schematic and PCB designs using mixed digital and analog circuits for electromechanical systems, including stepper and servo motors
- Proficiency with cable designs preferred
- Previous experience with design for medical devices preferred
- Familiarity with design of test equipment and fixtures preferred
- Must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Must be self‑motivated
- Must have good communication skills
- Most locations offer a 9/80 schedule, providing every other Friday off
