General Superintendent – Healthcare

Join the growing Gilbane team in sunny, central Florida as we build our diverse portfolio of multi‑million dollar projects across the region. You will be responsible for independently managing all field operations on projects up to $100 M, working daily on site and filling a key role on the project team.

Initial assignment will be in Merritt Island, with the long‑term expectation to remain within the central Florida radius.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the day‑to‑day coordination of trade contractors and sub‑contractors to ensure high‑quality work that meets the project schedule.
  • Manage the project budget for general conditions and site services.
  • Develop, document, and communicate the work plan for field changes.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to proactively anticipate potential problems.
  • Obtain or verify that subcontractors secure all necessary permits.
  • Act as primary safety representative and enforce safety compliance across trades.
  • Develop safety strategies and drive a safety culture throughout the project.
  • Conduct maintenance and planning of workarounds, shutdowns, and tie‑ins.
  • Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other partners.
  • Resolve jurisdictional disputes with support from senior leadership.
  • Lead contractor meetings regularly.
  • Maintain daily reports and documentation using appropriate software tools.
  • Create, manage, and update the project schedule and contingency plans.
  • Communicate schedule status, updates, and changes.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics.
  • Develop the Quality in Construction (QIC) plan in partnership with the Operations Excellence team.
  • Manage materials and crew needs.
  • Train direct‑report Field Engineers and Superintendents on project needs and construction knowledge.
  • Assist in pre‑construction and buy‑out processes.
  • Administer Time and Materials (T&M) tracking.
  • Lead stretch and flex huddles and pre‑task plans.
  • Engage in the community to grow local market relationships.
  • Collaborate closely with business development to integrate sales strategies with project performance.
  • Train direct reports on processes and daily task completion.
  • Manage workload and performance of direct reports.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 10–15 years of experience supervising commercial/industrial construction projects of $30–100 M.
  • OSHA 30‑hour certification.
  • STS‑C certification.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, Stop the Bleed training.
  • Healthcare construction experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong technical and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs.
  • Ability to participate in sales processes, interviews, and presentations.
  • Team‑player mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry construction software.
  • Construction‑document and drawing literacy.
  • Proficiency in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Familiarity with Pull Planning Process.
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety processes.
  • Experience supervising a project team.
