This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. It supports Manufacturing and Supply Chain across all Blue Origin facilities. The Construction Commodity Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering resilient, cost‑effective infrastructure to support Blue Origin’s expanding facilities footprint. Armed with both strategic and operational authority, he or she evaluates risks, opportunities, capabilities, and capacity in the construction supply base—enabling the execution of sourcing strategies across critical commodities such as structural steel, concrete, HVAC systems, major electrical equipment, and specialized facility systems.

By owning the Request for Quotation (RFx) and Long‑Term Agreement (LTA) activities for facility construction and upgrade projects, the Construction Commodity Manager ensures Blue Origin’s infrastructure needs are met with quality, safety, and schedule certainty. This role serves as the vital link between internal partners—facilities management, test and flight infrastructure teams, program strategy, and operations—driving integration and stability across the build environment.

Construction Commodity Managers identify and mitigate supply base risks within their commodity categories. Their work includes comprehensive supplier assessments, innovative sourcing strategies, and proactive contract management, all designed to support the design, build, and operation of state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing, testing, and flight facilities at Kennedy Space Center and beyond. He or she collaborates with a team of sub‑contract administrators to ensure the strategy can be executed in a timely, effective manner.

By studying construction industry trends, benchmarking suppliers, and seeking new solutions, Construction Commodity Managers enable the acquisition of best‑in‑class materials and services. Their strategic approach is essential for maintaining Blue Origin’s readiness, competitiveness, and continuity of operations, allowing our teams to safely and efficiently develop infrastructure that advances our mission.

Specialized Focus:
Construction Commodities (Space Industry)

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and own the commodity strategy for major construction categories supporting manufacturing facilities at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), including but not limited to:
    • Concrete, structural steel, building cladding, cranes, HVAC & major electrical systems, fire protection, IT/ET infrastructure, and associated civil, MEP and specialty trades
  • Negotiate and manage Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and other strategic supplier contracts, ensuring full alignment with Blue Origin’s construction project delivery goals
  • Lead RFx processes for commodity sourcing and award decisions; support project teams with timely, quality‑driven, and cost‑effective purchasing strategies
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally (project management, design, engineering, legal, finance, EHS) to ensure supplier solutions meet all technical, safety, and compliance requirements
  • Develop and maintain market intelligence, benchmarking vendor performance, and supply chain health for all major construction‑related commodities
  • Oversee supplier qualification, onboarding, and ongoing performance management; drive corrective actions, continuous improvement, and supplier innovation
  • Ensure strict compliance with relevant standards and regulations, especially concerning construction on federal/government land and secure facilities
