About the Role

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single‑configuration, heavy‑lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low‑Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human‑capable.

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy‑lift launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to Earth’s orbit and beyond. Engineered with a reusable first stage and a seven‑meter payload fairing, New Glenn is building the road to space.

As the Director for the New Glenn 7‑Engine Stage One (GS1) AFT Module, you will have responsibility for driving the design of AFT Module engineering from development production to rate production maturity. You will lead a team of engineers that are implementing targeted rate, cost, and performance improvements in addition to addressing emergent complex technical issues that arise during mission and production operations.

This team will provide engineering support to the refurbishment team with engineering planning and execution as vehicles are recovered after flight missions.

This position will encompass all aspects of program management, including cost, schedule, technical design, risk management, and working with Blue Origin internal organizations and suppliers to deliver subsystems. You will set the team's technical direction, requiring a broad application of sophisticated engineering principles, theories, concepts, and knowledge of other related subject areas. You will lead and develop the team with impact on all aspects of launch vehicle mechanical systems engineering.

You will closely coordinate with supplier management and internal manufacturing organizations to achieve rate cadence of system builds. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and require your dedication and attention toward safe and reliable spaceflight.

  • Lead the engineering planning and support of initial New Glenn GS1 AFT Module refurbishment on‑site at the Refurbishment Facility
  • Indirect management of system and structural analysis support of engineering issue resolution and change implementation
  • Leading the resolution of remaining system qualification and verification activities within the GS1 AFT Module end item definition
  • Identify, track, and mitigate risks to technical performance, cost, and schedule.
  • Lead and develop the team through hiring, training, and mentoring while providing technical leadership.
  • Meet recurring cost targets and manage risks and opportunities per flight cost requirement.
  • Support commercial and government launch customer requests for information, proposals, and alternate use cases.
