At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond.
Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. Join our dedicated team of diverse engineers on the 1st Stage Integration Engineering team, where you will serve as a key link between engineering and production while also holding design ownership of structural hardware. You will support the assembly, integration, and disposition of hardware issues on the factory floor, and contribute to the design, analysis, and improvement of structural components for the New Glenn first stage.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
- Candidates not based in Rocket Park, FL should expect travel to support integration and production activities.
- This role requires support of off-shift schedules, including nights and weekends, on an as-required basis to ensure continuity of development and testing operations.
- Full design engineering ownership of assigned metallic structural and/or mechanical components, including drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, work instructions, and test procedures to support nonconformance review and Material Review Board (MRB) assessments.
- Support integration activities by identifying available work, resolving roadblocks, and coordinating across disciplines.
- Identify, develop, and implement opportunities for stage integration process and hardware improvements.
- Support release and lifecycle management of engineering artifacts across fabrication, assembly, verification, test, and operations.
- B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a similar engineering field.
- 2+ years of professional experience supporting production, integration, or design of mechanical/structural system elements within aerospace, defense, automotive, or a similar industry.
- Experience with material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques.
- Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software.
- Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Ability to take ownership of work and operate under minimal direction, including in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability and willingness to support off-shift work, including nights and weekends, as required.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required to support integration activities if not based in Rocket Park, FL.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting Material Review assessments and nonconformance disposition.
- Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control relative to mechanical and structural hardware.
- Experience with Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill.
- Experience with structural FEA using ANSYS, NASTRAN, or similar tools.
- Experience with aerospace hardware design ownership as a responsible engineer.
