Merritt Island, FL. Fully remote candidates located within the U.S. will also be considered.
The Senior Systems Engineer's primary responsibility will be contributing to the development of Fault Management architectures for the Airbus U.S.'s satellite systems. This engineer will be involved in the full lifecycle of development, from requirements definition through operations. Being at the cutting edge of space technology, we need someone who is eager to learn, grow, and take on new and potentially unfamiliar challenges.
There is no shortage of fascinating problems to solve.
Systems Engineering - 75%
- Perform Fault Management Architecture tasks for Airbus U.S. satellite systems, including the heritage Arrow platform:
- Fault Management Requirements Development – initial definition, decomposition and flow down, specification maintenance and ownership.
- Fault Management System analyses, design development, and trade studies – perform analyses to inform fault management approach, develop system- and subsystem-level fault management design, and perform trade studies in conjunction with Systems Engineering and Subsystems to support subsequent detail design.
- FDIR Architecture – contribute to development of spacecraft Fault Management Concept of Operations; contribute to development of system-level FDIR architecture; create functional state machines for autonomous fault detection and isolation/recovery mechanisms; perform ground vs. onboard autonomy tradeoffs.
- Fault Management Verification planning and testing – develop and maintain Fault Management verification matrices and Fault Management V&V Plan, develop fault injection scenarios covering credible failure modes, work with Functional Validation on fault injection test procedures, and review test results.
- Support the development of subsystem-level requirements and requirement flow-down to the various components and parts as necessary - in all phases of the development lifecycle with particular emphasis on system integration, test, and mission operations.
- Ability to drive multiple design activities (programs or mission) – could lead to spacecraft, payload, and/or satellite bus activities.
- Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of engineering and integration activities.
- Support Airbus spacecraft development product roadmap, which includes design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned for future business captures.
- Support the definition of spacecraft customization process for customer mission needs.
- Perform all the necessary systems engineering activities to build, to maintain and to evolve the Airbus spacecraft products.
- Promote and optimize cost savings by reuse of the heritage platform designs and manufacturing infrastructures in the pursuit of various constellation prospects.
