This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
This is a frontline, hands‑on production supervisor role supporting Payload Fairing composite manufacturing. The Supervisor is expected to actively participate in day‑to‑day production while leading and supporting an hourly team responsible for composite layup operations, including carbon pre‑preg, carbon fiber, fiberglass, and hand layup processes.
In this role, you will directly contribute to the fabrication of flight hardware while ensuring safety, quality, and production rate commitments are met. You will share in the team’s impact across all aspects of transforming how rockets are manufactured and operated, while driving disciplined execution on the production floor.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced production environment, works effectively on integrated cross‑functional teams, and leads by example through hands‑on engagement. This role is well‑suited for individuals who continuously seek opportunities to learn and improve, bring experience from composite or advanced manufacturing environments (aerospace experience is not required), and are willing to contribute wherever needed to support team and program success.
Responsibilities- Lead and supervise hourly technicians in a rate production environment while maintaining safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance.
- Ensure work is executed strictly to released work instructions, specifications, and engineering requirements.
- Drive production to takt and rate commitments, ensuring hardware flows through work centers at the required pace.
- Actively manage daily execution using standard work, tiered meetings, and visual management.
- Hold technicians accountable to quality standards, first‑pass yield, and workmanship expectations for flight hardware.
- Identify, upscale and resolve production constraints impacting safety, quality, or schedule in a timely manner.
- Coordinate cross‑functionally with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities, and Supply Chain to remove barriers to execution.
- Ensure technicians are properly trained, qualified, and certified prior to task assignment.
- Promote and enforce 5S, FOD prevention, and a clean, inspection‑ready work environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, yield, and process stability.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or operations environment.
- Prior experience leading or supervising hourly employees or acting in a lead role.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction and constructive feedback.
- Working knowledge of safety, quality, and production control fundamentals.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights or weekends as required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, or a related field.
- Experience supporting rate production of flight or high‑reliability hardware.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, standard work, and continuous improvement tools.
