Youll be covering stories such as:

• Major sports figures making headlines on the pitch, court, or ring and beyond
• Flashpoint moments, gaffes, or incidents that spark wider conversation
• Breakout athletes or results that capture attention far beyond regular fans
• Stories where sport intersects with celebrity, media, or online culture

You wont be writing:

• Match reports or play-by-play coverage
• Tactical or performance analysis
• Routine transfer or roster updates without wider relevance

If a story only matters to hardcore fans, its probably not for us.

• Writing clear, engaging news stories for a mainstream, global audience
• Pitching timely, relevant ideas
• Spotting stories early through social media, live events, and trend monitoring
• Explaining why a story matters, not just what happened
• Working with editorial and social teams to ensure stories reach a wide audience

• Freelance role, including weekend availability
• Were looking for a writer who is switched on to major global sports moments and can pitch confidently to editors

• Strong news judgement and an instinct for stories that travel
• Experience writing about sport, entertainment, or online culture
• Ability to write accessible, engaging copy
