Ward 7 is an acute surgical ward with specialities such as colorectal, upper gastrointestinal, urology, trauma and maxillofacial surgery.
The ward consists of 20 surgical ward beds and the trauma assessment unit.
We look after a broad range of post operative patients from the age of 16 upwards. This will give you a great opportunity to widen your knowledge in managing post operative surgical patients.
The trauma assessment unit has 4 trolleys which are often converted into beds depending on the individual patient.
The TAU takes referrals from ED or the GP for a trauma assessment following initial assessment.
We in the surgical department at Prince Charles Hospital have a unique rapport with all of the surgical wards. We all work closely together to share our experiences, our skills and our beliefs. This has created a bond where staff feel supported and valued.
Our ideal candidate would be someone who will dedicate their time to patient care and their team, have the thirst for improvement and the drive to succeed. Surgical experience is desirable but not as essential due to the extensive support and guidance from the surgical nursing team.
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. For more information, see ‘Welsh Language Guidance’ in the documents right at the bottom.
