Safety Engineer, Regulatory Compliance Specialist
The Authority's headquarters will be located at Rhydycar Business Park, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 1UZ
. This will be the principal place of work and where most colleagues will come together to collaborate with one another and with stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be expected to attend the office in Merthyr Tydfil regularly to support collaboration and stakeholder engagement. For full-time employees, this will typically be 2–3 days per week, with attendance requirements adjusted on a pro-rata basis for part-time employees.
As a national organisation serving communities across Wales, the DTA will also establish a number of regional hubs and collaboration spaces. Details of these locations are currently being developed and will be confirmed ahead of the Authority becoming operational. Merthyr Tydfil will remain the Authority's headquarters.

As an
Inspector
, you'll undertake inspections and monitoring of disused mine and quarry tips across Wales, gathering the evidence needed to understand risk, support operational decision-making and protect people and communities.
Working both independently and alongside colleagues, you'll apply technical expertise and professional judgement to assess site conditions, identify emerging risks and ensure inspections are delivered safely, consistently and to the highest professional standards.
Reporting to the
Senior Operations Manager (Inspection), you'll contribute to building a modern, nationally consistent inspection service founded on technical excellence, professionalism and continuous improvement.
This is an opportunity to help establish a national inspection service from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities- Delivering inspections
You'll undertake inspections and monitoring across Wales, applying approved methodologies to assess site conditions, identify hazards and gather accurate evidence that supports the Authority's statutory responsibilities.
Identifying and escalating riskYou'll use sound professional judgement to identify changes in site condition, recognise emerging risks and escalat significant issues promptly to support effective operational decision-making and public safety.
Maintaining high-quality evidenceYou'll produce accurate inspection records, maintain high standards of data quality and ensure inspection findings provide reliable evidence to support the Authority's national understanding of disused tip risk.
Working safely and professionallyYou'll work safely in a variety of field environments, following safe systems of work and consistently demonstrating professionalism, integrity and respect when engaging with colleagues, landowners and other stakeholders.
Contributing to continuous improvementYou'll contribute to improving inspection practice by sharing learning, supporting colleagues and maintaining your professional knowledge and technical capability through continuous development.
