Junior Technical Support Engineer (Mechanical)

The Medical Device Service support users of medical equipment across all of our hospital sites within the Northern Care Alliance.

You will have a key role in supporting the department's responsibility for the maintenance, repair and sub‑contractor management of medical equipment. This will include first‑line support to users of medical equipment to optimise system uptime to gain maximum use of medical equipment.

Ideally, you will possess a minimum of HNC in Mechanical or Operations, or Mechatronics engineering and have relevant experience since qualifying in the field of medical equipment. Knowledge in the application and repair of a wide range of medical equipment used in a hospital and community is essential, although some specific training will be provided.

Consideration may be given to applicants with reduced knowledge and skills, who follow a personnel development programme on a reduced grade.

Please note that, for this post, you will be required to have obtained a full UK driving licence

The post holder will provide specialist technical knowledge for the implementation and delivery of a long‑term operational plan for cost‑effective and efficient management and deployment of safe medical devices across the care organisations.

They will be working towards achieving compliance levels for medical device repair and maintenance, including downtime, and ensuring that systems are available to enable clinical teams to have insight into progress with maintenance and repair of their devices.

• HNC (level 4/5 BTEC) minimum in Mechanical / Operations / Mechatronics Engineering
• Full clean UK driving licence

• Motivated, proactive, adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of the service
• Positive attitude towards change and its implementation
• Literate to transfer information onto a computer system and standardised departmental documents
• Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written, as well as communications skills to liaise with all disciplines, both on the phone, in‑person and in writing
• Good numerical skills, ability to analyse data and make appropriate recommendations
• Proven organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload with interruptions and changing priorities, while working as part of a team

• Experience of successfully working within tight time frames and to deadlines, able to demonstrate the ability to plan and work to these scales, contributing to the provision of an efficient and timely service to the trust
• Previous work in a field of mechanical maintenance and repair. Knowledge in the application and use of a wide range of medical devices across the complexity spectrum
• Range of supplier approved training on the servicing and repair of biomedical equipment used in hospitals
