Our defence client are hiring skilled Mechanical Assembly Technicians to join their new site in South Wales (postcode is CF48 4DR
) on a permanent basis
£32k annual salary, 40 hours a week
the role plays a pivotal part in high-profile military projects, dealing with the production of both vehicles and containers, and your ideas and contribution will be valued in a business where people really matter
Your responsibilities in this role include:- assemble and install components including machined parts, brackets, and other assembled parts
- Work from engineering drawings, technical specifications and associated design data
- Ensure all tasks are completed within allocated time frames and to required quality standards
- Follow company production processes, procedures and configuration control requirements
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail
- Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures
- Identify and report any issues, defects or non-conformances during assembly
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including lean and 5S activities
- Maintain a clean, organised and compliant work area
- Ensure tools, equipment and materials are used correctly and maintained in good condition
- Accurately complete required documentation, including timesheets and job records
- Support production meetings or team briefings where required
- Experience in a hands-on role requiring manual dexterity, precision and accuracy
- Background in any practical trade (e.g. mechanical fitting, vehicle body building, fabrication, construction or similar)
- Proven ability to work with tools and assemble components to fine tolerances
- Experience working in a workshop, site or manufacturing environment is beneficial
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
- Apprenticeship (e.g. City & Guilds) or equivalent in a relevant trade (desirable)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical information
- Understanding of basic assembly and installation techniques
- Familiarity with workshop or site-based health and safety practices
- Basic knowledge of production processes and methods
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
