Great Cornish Good Store offers an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Level 2 Butcher Apprentice. This role provides insight into the food industry and allows you to develop your knowledge and skills.
Wage: £16,640 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age. National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices applies.
Employee Profit Share is available to employees over 18 once they meet the length of service criteria.
WorkMost of your apprenticeship will be spent working on the shop floor, gaining hands‑on experience.
What you’ll do at workYou will be part of the Butchery Team at a medium‑sized employee‑owned Cornish Food Retailer, providing high‑quality products and customer service.
- Assist in preparing and presenting fresh meat to the highest standards.
- Learn traditional and modern butchery techniques under expert guidance.
- Provide excellent customer service, ensuring every customer feels valued and informed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic working environment in line with food safety standards.
- Support the team with stock rotation, merchandising, cleaning, waste management and daily operational tasks.

Apprenticeships include time off the shop floor for specialist training and study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
- Attend structured training sessions at Duchy Stoke Climsland weekly.
- Comply with regulations, legislation, and organisational policies relevant to the role.
- Maintain and sharpen knives and cutting equipment.
- Manually handle carcasses or primals during the butchery process.
- You will be working towards a Level 2 Butcher Apprenticeship standard and receive Food Safety and Allergen training.
- Use technology and applications to support production, sales, and customer service.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities focusing on sustainability.
- Communicate with customers and stakeholders to meet their requirements.
- Process and dispose of waste material and control foreign bodies.
- You will be required to attend weekly training at Duchy Stoke Climsland.
- GCSE Mathematics (grade 3 or above).
- Relevant qualifications or industry experience can be taken into account.
- Customer care skills.

- Strong communication skills and a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Following the successful completion of the Butchery Apprenticeship, there will be an opportunity to progress as a Junior Butcher within the team.
