About the Role

Goetre Community Primary School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly motivated Community Liaison Officer to support children, young people, families, and residents within our community.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening relationships between the school, families, community organisations, and partner agencies. The successful candidate will provide a community-based social prescribing and family and community support service, helping individuals, families, and residents of the area identify and overcome barriers affecting their wellbeing, engagement, and life opportunities.

Working closely with staff, families, residents, and external agencies, you will take a person-centred approach to support, ensuring that community members receive the right help at the right time. You will promote early intervention, improve access to services, and strengthen community connections, helping to build resilience, independence, and positive outcomes for all.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Engage with children, young people, families, and community members to identify factors affecting wellbeing, attendance, engagement, and achievement.
  • Undertake holistic assessments and develop personalised support and wellbeing plans.
  • Provide practical guidance, encouragement, and ongoing support to families.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and community members and stakeholders.
  • Connect community members with appropriate services, community resources and support networks, including health, social care and voluntary sector organisations.
  • Deliver outreach work, including home visits and community-based engagement activities.
  • Work collaboratively with education, health, social care, and voluntary sector partners to ensure coordinated support.
  • Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings and advocate on behalf of children, families, and members of the community where appropriate.
  • Identify vulnerable and hard-to-reach families and community members and support them to engage effectively with education and wider services.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

You will be required to provide evidence of all qualifications specified as essential.

Ability to speak Welsh is desirable.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is committed to protecting and safeguarding the most vulnerable people in our community. Rigorous pre-employment checks are undertaken for all appointments as part of our recruitment and selection process.
