Description

The faculty of Alverno College are the primary architects, builders, and leaders of the College’s educational programs at all degree levels and, as such, exert profound influence on attainment of the College’s mission as well as on its spirit, community life and institutional vitality. Faculty participate in institutional governance through the Faculty Senate and as representatives on various college committees.

A full-time faculty member holds one of three traditional ranks—professor, associate professor, or assistant professor—ordinarily within a department of a school.

In addition to course-level instruction, full-time faculty members are expected to participate in School and institution-wide work maintaining and updating Alverno educational practices. In addition to duties as an Alverno educator, the position of full-time faculty member in the Joann McGrath School of Nursing and Health Professions (JMSNHP) requires participation in determining school directions, service on committees, participation in College activities, and participation in faculty meetings, College Institutes, JMSNHP faculty and committee meetings, and possibly performance of administrative duties.

Requirements

Assistant professor:
Master’s degree;
Doctorate-level education (DNP or PhD) is preferred.

Associate professor:
Earned doctorate, or appropriate terminal degree in those fields where the doctorate is not considered essential by the specific department or program and approved by the respective dean and the chief academic officer; recognized achievement in teaching; active participation in scholarship, including the creative arts as appropriate to one’s field; and service to the College and community.

Professor:
Earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree in those fields where the doctorate is not considered essential by the specific department or program and approved by the respective dean and the chief academic officer; acclaimed achievement in teaching; distinguished faculty leadership in such areas as scholarship, including the creative arts; and service to the College and community.

• Experience in clinical supervision or education of nursing students is preferred.
• Recent practical expertise is required, especially in long-term care, medical-surgical, and/or community-based environments. Experience in labor and delivery and/or pediatrics is a plus.
• Familiarity with ability-based curriculum is a plus.
• Current, unencumbered Arizona RN license is required.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the College’s strategic plan of belonging.
