Overview

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Mission Critical, Traveler

Roles and responsibilities reflect work on advanced construction projects within JE Dunn’s Advanced Facilities Group (AFG), focusing on Mission Critical, Advanced Industries, and Industrial & Manufacturing sectors.

Responsibilities
  • The M/E Engineer 3 will complete increasingly complex mechanical, electrical and field construction activities. This position will be responsible for collecting and assembling data, developing estimates and generating systems and bid analysis. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.
  • Autonomy & Decision-Making:
    Makes decisions on routine matters, provides recommendations to supervisor and refers all exceptions to supervisor.
  • Implement safety and quality plans, participate in safety culture, and mentor others to promote an injury-free environment.
  • Complete entry level and routine mechanical, electrical and field construction activities.
  • Develop budgetary M/E estimates based on program and schematic design information using automated M/E estimating system.
  • Assist in the review of mechanical and electrical options during preconstruction and complete systems analyses for select projects.
  • Develop mechanical and electrical scopes of work for bid coordination.
  • Assist in bid analysis and contribute to subcontractor selection.
  • Develop sequencing requirements of various systems to meet schedule requirements.
  • Identify potential quality problems from design documents and contribute to constructability review reports.
  • Perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met, with quality and timeliness.
  • Assist with shop drawing/submittal process to comply with contract documents.
  • Assist with commissioning, including developing pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures.
  • Lead and promote a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn.
Additional Core Responsibilities
  • Develops budgetary M/E estimates and provides value engineering suggestions.
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process and provide scheduling input on projects.
  • Review design documents to identify potential quality problems and help develop quality control programs.
  • Perform job inspections to ensure work meets specifications and quality standards.
  • Develop pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures and verify commissioning performance.
  • Review and approve shop drawings prior to submission to the design team.
  • Generate and issue the Commissioning Plan for approvals; verify deficiencies are corrected and document commissioning outcomes.
  • Mentor less experienced coworkers and create M/E tools to improve processes and outputs.
  • Continue to promote diversity and inclusion in the organization.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written (Intermediate).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
  • Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and specifications.
  • Develops proficiency in basic JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software.
  • Knowledge of means and methods of construction management.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering or related field (Required).
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
  • 5+ years construction and/or engineering experience (Preferred).
Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required
