Summary
Under the direct supervision and management of the Dental Hygiene Program Director, the Sterilization Technician provides support and assistance to the public, students, and staff by providing sterilization and maintenance support to Dental Hygiene Program and by performing a wide variety of technical, clerical, and maintenance duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervision and maintenance of clinical equipment
- Create and track all repair orders for equipment
- Complete required biological monitoring of sterilization equipment; tracking reports, maintain records; facilitates removal of hazardous materials with vendor; maintains supply of required containers for waste materials, monitors waterline safety
- Support new student orientation and graduating student checkout
- Maintains processing of laundry (if applicable)
- Enforce all safety processes and policies in the clinic and sterilization area
- Student enforcement and oversight with all safety and sterilization protocols
- Maintains required signage for OSHA and Infection Control protocols within the sterilization area
- Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Maintains inventory of all supplies used in the clinic for patients and students
- Manages sterilization processing, storage, and distribution of instruments following all guidelines, protocols, and requirements
- Distributes and stores supplies upon receipt and maintains invoices as needed
- Communicates effectively with staff and faculty regarding supply needs and the ordering process
- Attends department meetings as required
- Maintain professional communication with faculty and students
- Performs other duties as assigned
