The Center for Indigenous Health (CIH) is located within International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The core activities housed at CIH include research studies of infectious diseases, behavioral and mental health, and various training programs. The CIH works in partnership with communities to promote Indigenous well-being and health leadership to the highest possible level.

We are seeking a Mental Health Programs Specialist
. Reporting to the Associate Director for Mental Health programs at Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health ("Center"), the Mental Health Programs Specialist position supports the education, training and research mission of the Center by performing and coordinating the administration of training and development where the Center's Training and Research programs intersect. Additionally, this position includes facilitation, evaluation and supervision of training for program coordinators at the Chinle Site/Southwest Hub.

This position further supports all Center sites and hubs. This position requires coordination with faculty and senior staff to develop the administrative tools and data systems for strategic planning that advances the Center's experience for program participants, students, staff, faculty, and the department.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop research and engagement projects in collaboration with stakeholders in industry, tribal, state and federal government and community-based organizations.
  • Define and document the Center for Indigenous Health Chinle-site programs' scope, objectives, activities, milestones, and outcomes based on partner needs, stakeholder interest, and Center resources.
  • Create long- and short-term plans for Center programs that align with the Center's portfolio of programs to develop new insights about the field of public health innovation that influence how rural Indigenous communities work and access mental health services.
  • Coordinate multi-partner engagement in the collaborative design and delivery of program activities, which include public engagement, coaching and training, and codifying knowledge.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with partner communities, network-serving organizations, and the Center's Hubs to foster the production and dissemination of forward-thinking ideas.
  • Provide project updates to partners and manage expectations.
  • Maintain proactive and feedback channels with executives, colleagues, and internal and external partners.
  • Prepare project status reports, risk management assessments, and other program lifecycle reports and documentation.
  • Create and communicate routine and periodic updates, such as presentations, meeting summaries, and presentations for Center leadership, community stakeholders, and tribal government partners.
  • Create briefings, presentations, and talking points about the Center's programs for a variety of audiences.
  • Assess program needs, identify the resource best positioned to meet them, and activate internal subject matter experts or external partners.
  • Adjust schedules and deliverable timeline(s) as situations may require to ensure project goals are met.
  • Promote cooperation with teams across the Center to propose and develop sustainable and innovative solutions that advance the mental health program goals.

  • Geopolitical and cultural knowledge of tribal policies, particularly in the Indigenous communities where we serve.
  • Understanding of policy making and policy campaigns.
  • Qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Ability to collect and combine information and provide summary reports.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team.
  • Ability to work with internal staff and partners.
  • Enjoys developing relationships and connections with multiple partners at once.
  • Comfort with technology and able to use systems and collaboration tools, including Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to effectively present information to learners.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in related discipline. Typically require PhD.
  • One year related experience. Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
