Job SummaryData Center Construction Lead Tech – responsible for supporting the installation of infrastructure including racks, cabinets, cage walls, hot/cold aisle containment, grounding, fiber guide, Unistrut, ladder rack, structured cabling, and managing inside plant (ISP) activities at the assigned work site(s). Read and understand ISP diagrams/drawings and maintain accurate field notes. Other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required and/or assigned. This position requires field work, overtime, weekends, holidays, and off-hours.
Travel may be required depending on business needs.
- Perform data center cage and overhead ladder rack work in accordance with industry standards. Read and follow design engineers’ instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Prepare engineering field notes. Interpret engineering drawings in maps and field contexts and make recommendations for changes as required.
- Understand and adhere to customer timelines.
- Demonstrate budget-minded behaviors to review and ensure profitability on new, ongoing, and completed projects.
- Utilize a network of contacts to source high-quality Project Managers and Technicians.
- Serve as a corporate liaison to champion cultural change and support organizational morale to drive operational efficiency.
- Coordinate and communicate activities with other employees, departments, and management.
- Knowledge of basic tools, construction practices, and communication networks.
- Knowledge of cable installation practices and cable dressing.
- Knowledge of basic AC and DC power plants.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cable types and manufacturer specifications to prevent damage.
- Knowledge of various manufacturers’ ISP racks, cabinets, ladder rack, fiber guide, and termination panels.
- Knowledge of cable testing procedures and test equipment.
- Knowledge of inside plant safety measures.
- Knowledge of data center security processes and adherence to measures in place.
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft applications.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and make sound decisions based on available information.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
- Education Level: High School/GED
- Experience:
5+ years in a relevant role or similar industry with related duties. - Field of Study:
Electronics, Telecommunications, Construction or Project Management
