IT Application Support Engineer II

Overview

The City of Mesa’s Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) is hiring for two current vacancies. One vacancy is in the Application Support (Utility Services) Assignment, and one is in the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Assignment.

The first review of applications will be on Monday, August 25, 2025, and weekly thereafter.

• Provide skilled technical services in support of installation, configuration, testing, integration, and ongoing support for City applications or infrastructure requiring an in-depth knowledge of the City’s platforms and environment to meet availability and performance goals.
• Support multiple areas including Business Solutions and Application Development;
  Business Analytics;
  Database;
  Desktop and Mobile Services;
  Service Desk;
  Geographic Information System (GIS);
  Network;
  Security;
  Unified Communications; and Server, Storage, and Backup.
• Perform work on multiple assignments simultaneously: configuration, integration, development, testing, and resolution of problems for systems; assess and troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking problems following established guidelines; initiate and/or maintain Incident Reports (IRs) using online incident management systems.
• Assist with research, evaluation, and implementation of new technologies and/or packaged software; install and support hardware and/or software; prepare and/or update system documentation; control changes in system environments to ensure stable delivery of resources; coordinate and mentor staff; develop and analyze data for problem resolution and strategic planning.
• Implement, maintain, and monitor systems and related subsystems; participate in projects and/or lead small- to medium-scale projects related to City computer systems, data, and infrastructure; participate in design, programming, installation, and/or implementation of information systems; plan, analyze, design, implement, coordinate, and schedule processes and strategies for multi-platform systems.
• Support computing processes across multiple platforms and networks; utilize monitoring, forecasting, trend analysis, and reporting tools; ensure work aligns with City and IT long-term strategies; perform related duties as required.

This assignment provides application support, integration, and may include development of applications, interfaces, and reports against multiple databases supporting vendor-purchased application solutions. The position performs complex diagnostics and troubleshooting for designated applications including utility services, utility billing, payment/remittance processing, and metering applications. This role creates test scripts and conducts QA reviews to increase successful changes and reduce defects. The IT Engineer II should have a comprehensive understanding of the supported technologies and share expertise with others.

The ideal candidate will have strong familiarity with application support, integration, and development, including SQL and PL/SQL Stored Procedures, SQL Report development, Oracle and SQL databases, JavaScript, and Power Shell; ability to understand business processes and assist customers with implementations, integrations, and support. Proficiency in written and verbal communications, customer service, teamwork, project and technical leadership, report writing, and technical documentation is expected.

Experience supporting utility services areas (gas, water, wastewater, electric, etc.) and tools such as Hansen Banner

CX, Power

BI, CA Automic Workload Automation, and Visual Studio C#, HTML 5, and XML is a plus.

This assignment provides user support, system maintenance, and administration for multiple applications within the ERP portfolio.
