Overview
This classified, non-merit, at-will position is a Deputy Solid Waste Director responsible for managing the solid waste collections section, including commercial and residential operations, the Household Hazardous Materials facility, and support services. The role entails coordination of personnel, material, technology, and equipment to ensure daily refuse and recycling collection, budget management, operational data analysis, and continuous improvement.

ResponsibilitiesThe Deputy Solid Waste Director manages day‑to‑day collections operations, including trajectory and strategic planning, establishes performance measures, and ensures compliance with state and local regulations. The director prepares action plans, performs program planning, and coordinates the maintenance and replacement capital budget for vehicle replacement, container management, and other capital programs.

Minimum Qualifications- Graduation with a Master’s Degree in Public or Environmental Health, Business or Public Administration, or a related field and 3–5 years experience in solid waste/recycling collection, including three years in a supervisory capacity.
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Environmental Health, Business or Public Administration, or a related field and 5+ years experience in solid waste/recycling collection, including three years in a supervisory capacity.
Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.
Preferred / Desirable Qualification- Complimentary experience in the operation of post‑collection facilities such as transfer stations, materials recovery, and landfills is preferred.
