Description:
This position requires telemetry skills. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience in a telemetry setting. Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of receiving an offer. Exam will be conducted through a designated training platform. There will also be a PASS/FAIL simulation lab on the first day of orientation. Study guides will be provided with first-day instructions.
The unit consists of a total of 60 emergency department beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 to 4. Common diagnoses include patients holding in the emergency department awaiting placement. Nurses will primarily care for telemetry patients rather than medical patients. Candidates must be able to decrease cardiac drips per physicians' orders and set parameters. Previous travel experience is not required for this position.
RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips as there are no monitor technicians in the unit. Shift scheduling involves 12-hour shifts with the opportunity for self-scheduling. There is a requirement for four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule. Staff members must be willing to work two of four major holidays. Responsibilities may also include assisting with emergency department patients, including taking vital signs and starting IVs.
While not acting as the primary RN, assistance with medication administration may be required. There is no call or standby requirement for this role. Floating to medical-surgical, telemetry, overflow units, or other emergency departments may be necessary. Candidates are expected to adhere to the dress code established for the department. Patients cared for will include those waiting for inpatient admission from the emergency department.
Cancellation policy allows for up to four shifts to be canceled during the assignment. The charting system used is Cerner.
