Grocery Clerk – Smith's Food & Drug Centers – Salt Lake City, Utah
Smith's Food and Drug, part of The Kroger Company, serves customers across Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. As a Grocery Clerk, you will create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service, maintain a safe and clean environment, and support the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals.
Responsibilities- Assist customers in discovering and selecting grocery items.
- Inform customers of food specials and recommend items.
- Check product quality and review “sell by” dates.
- Provide customers with ordered fresh and non‑perishable products.
- Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
- Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department.
- Create an environment where customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
- Reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
- Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Work cooperatively in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
- Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
- Perform essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
