JOB DESCRIPTION - DALLAS TRAILER REPAIR CO. MOBILE DIESEL TECHNICIAN Job Summary
This position is responsible for safely operating a mobile repair vehicle for the routine maintenance, diagnostics and repair on all trailers and related equipment. To succeed in this role, one should have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic’s tools, service, and diagnostic equipment, as well as strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and customer service skills, and be able to work independently or as a team member.
MechanicResponsibilities
- Aptitude in using various hand tools, power tools and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)
- Perform requested repairs according industry standard
- Perform routine maintenance on trailers and related equipment
- Perform trailer body work, under-carriage work (e.g. air bag replacement, cross-members, dolly legs, tandem system)
- Inspect, analyze, and diagnose trailers and related equipment for mechanical issues, faulty and replacement parts.
- Problem solve and document an action plan for all repairs and follow checklists and protocols while conducting repairs.
- Ensure a safe, organized, and tidy workspace, including regularly cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
- Follow all health and safety rules and guidelines, as well as common sense safety practices.
- Ability to work independently, as well as support coworkers, able to work as part of team and work well with co-workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and a clear Motor Vehicle Report to our Driver Fleet Policy.
- Must be “insurable” according DTR’s insurance company’s requirements (acceptable driving record, age min/max requirements)
- Must be able to read and write in English, in order to follow local, state, and federal driving laws and signs and as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions.
- Experience:
1–2 years of mechanical or equivalent experience. - Certifications:
ASE certifications highly desired but not required. - Must pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test, background check (10-year), and drug/medical physical exam.
- Proven mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
- Ability to read and write in English for documentation and communication.
- Must have own tools and safety gear (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection).
- Heavy Work:
Exert up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly. - Frequent activities:
Walking, standing, climbing, stooping, crouching, balancing, kneeling, and crawling. - Manual dexterity:
Frequent use of hands and fingers for grasping, typing, and operating tools. - Sensory abilities:
Talking, hearing, & vision sufficient for detailed inspection, safe operation of tools, machinery, and vehicles.
Work is performed primarily in a shop setting — both indoors and outdoors. Conditions may include exposure to:
- Non-climate-controlled environments / Hot/cold temperature changes
- Dirt, dust, soot, fumes, and other airborne particles
- Moving mechanical parts and electrical equipment
- Chemicals and limited ventilation
- High places, confined spaces, and loud noise
- Proper PPE and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.
