Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC is seeking a Tax Associate. The candidate must have a college degree in accounting, or a related major, and preferably be currently working towards completing the CPA exam. The associate will work in the field or office on engagements involving audits, management services, and preparation of tax returns for clients.
Knowledge Of The Firm- The Associate is expected to acquire familiarity with the Firm’s organization, services, and policies related to professional, administrative, and personnel matters.
- Be alert to the interests of clients, the Firm, and the profession.
- Develop technical skills and personal qualifications, including:
- Well‑rounded knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards.
- Working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws sufficient for preparing tax returns.
- Awareness of current developments in the accounting profession.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Professional appearance and conduct.
- Accuracy in handling numeric and alphabetic information.
- Proficiency with firm resources such as manuals and software.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Assist with studying and evaluating internal accounting controls.
- Test compliance with internal controls when evaluation indicates reliability.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Examine client bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Examine subsidiary account reconciliations to controls.
- Schedule accrual computations and document supporting details.
- Prepare schedules of write-offs for prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
- Work on S‑Corp, C‑Corp, partnership, multi‑state, individual, trust, and estate tax returns.
- Stay up-to-date with tax laws and regulations.
- Interact closely with clients and client executives to provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance services.
- Minimize taxes while adhering to regulations.
- Provide flexibility to manage workload as deadlines approach.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel overnight.
- May be required to work weekends.
