The Estimator is a vital member of the preconstruction team, responsible for producing precise and reliable cost estimates across conceptual, negotiated, and competitive bid projects. This position works closely with project management, support teams, and clients to analyze drawings, develop quantities, coordinate subcontractor pricing, and support project buyout. Through collaboration and attention to detail, the Estimator helps set projects up for financial and operational success.
This role reports to the Director of Preconstruction.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Construction Management, Engineering, or related curriculum or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of professional experience in estimating/pre‑construction for a commercial general contractor or subcontractor.
- 3+ years of hard bid experience on Lump Sum (primarily public) projects, including material take‑off and pricing; capable of developing “plug” numbers, divisional breakdown of project costs, scope development, tab sheet normalizing, bid day pricing negotiation, and management of post‑bid submission items.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software programs.
- Solid math, budgeting, and financial analysis skills; excellent teamwork, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
The physical demands of this position must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for an extended period of time, frequently stand and walk, hand use, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and occasionally lift and/or move office equipment up to 20 pounds.
Specific vision abilities include viewing computer monitors. Most work is performed in an office environment during normal business hours.
