Overview

The Tax Director is responsible for supporting the State and Local tax function of the company, providing technical expertise, and advising on various state and local tax issues, and developing and maintaining a comprehensive set of controls and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Leading the accurate and timely preparation and filing of multi-state sales/use, franchise, gross receipts, and property tax returns.
    • Overseeing all state and local tax liability calculations and reporting for GAAP.
    • Staying current on changes in tax laws, regulations, and rulings for state and local taxes.
  • Tax planning, compliance, and consulting.
    • Identifying, reviewing, and advising the Company of state and local income tax implications of corporate operations and new business initiatives and transactions.
    • Researching state and local indirect tax issues including taxability of products and services, entity registration requirements, and invoicing.
    • Preparing detailed written tax guidance for internal Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams, and actively educating these teams on tax issues and requirements.
  • Overseeing the scheduling of state and local tax audits.
  • Assisting with year-end income tax preparation, as necessary.
    • Coordinating with the external income tax team.
    • Compiling state apportionment schedules.
  • Facilitating tax department projects.
    • Collaborating with the external tax team to ensure alignment of state and local tax strategies with broader tax objectives.
    • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and automation within tax procedures.
    • Identifying tax automation systems.
  • Assisting with year-end audit preparation as necessary.
  • Leading the preparation and filing of annual 1099s.
  • Facilitating Business Licenses renewals and applications.
    • Collaborating with the third-party team to process business licenses.
    • Identifying and advising the Company and the third-party team of new business initiatives and transactions that may trigger Business Licenses.
  • Leading the preparation and filing of Unclaimed property reports.
    • Staying current on escheat laws and regulations.
  • Performs any other duties or responsibilities related to tax reporting as assigned by the Senior Director of Financial Reporting and/or Executive Vice President of Finance.
Qualifications Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related area.
  • CPA Required.
  • 10 plus years of relevant experience.
  • Strong state and local tax knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills.
